FAQ

What is F3?

F3 is a national network of free, peer-led workouts for men. Our mission is to plant, grow and serve small workout groups for men for the invigoration of male community leadership.

It traces its roots to a free, participant-led boot camp workout held on Saturday mornings at a Charlotte, NC, park since 2006. The co-founders of F3 are David Redding, “Dredd,” and Tim Whitmire, “OBT,” who launched their first Saturday workout on 1/1/11 on the campus of A.G. Middle School in Charlotte.

Is it really free?

Yes, there’s no catch. F3 is 100% FREE and open to ALL men.

How do I find a workout?

Check out the F3 Lanco workout locations. Check the map for exact meetup spots. If you’re traveling, you can also check the national location map to find an F3 near you.

What do I need for my first workout?

Read the F3 disclaimer, then simply pick a workout location that you want to try. F3 is for every fitness level, you will be encouraged to go at your own pace and modify workouts as needed. If you are not meeting a friend at your first workout, simply show up and introduce yourself as a new guy. You’ll be welcomed!

What should I wear / bring?

Wear weather-appropriate workout clothes and athletic shoes, and bring a water bottle. At some locations, we could be in a parking lot or lifting blocks, so it is a good idea to bring work gloves.

What’s up with the exercise names and lingo?

We like to have fun at F3, so we’ve come up with our own lingo and funny names for exercises. Check out the F3 Lexicon or Exercise database to learn more, but here are a few common ones:

  • AO: Area of Operations, the geographical location at which a workout takes place.
  • BACKBLAST: After a workout, the workout leader (called the Q) will post a summary of the workout, including who attended. View our Backblasts.
  • COT: Circle of Trust, the ending of every F3 workout. It includes getting a count of men present, naming any FNGs, announcements, etc.
  • FNG: Friendly New Guy, someone at their first workout. Everyone at F3 has a nickname, but you don’t get it until the end of your first workout.
  • GLOOM: The murky pre-dawn when we gather to workout.
  • PAX: The members of F3.
  • POST: When you post to an AO, it means you’re showing up for a workout.
  • Q: The person leading the workout. Responsible for creating the workout, making sure no one gets left behind, and making sure the workout ends on time.
