BACKBLAST:

Warm Up:

-Low Plank – 5 Core Principals & F3 Credo

-Romans 1:20 : For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.

My grandpa is the reason this is my favorite verse. He’d ride his tractor up on the hill, and look out at the valley and mountains. He’d say “How can anyone see such beauty in creation and not believe there’s a God.” My grandpa died 20 years ago, but not a day goes by that I don’t think of him in some way.

-SSH (x24 IC) …24 For my 24 months of F3 (2 Year Manniversary last week)

-Grass Pickers (x10 IC)…My grandpa spend a lot of time in the grass & dirt

-Hillbilly Walkers (x10 IC)…My grandpa lived in the hills of central PA, so he was a hillbilly

-Goof Balls (x10 IC)…My grandpa could be a big goofball

-RR Tracks to the grassy area by the bathroom …My grandpa loved trains and the railroad

The Thang:

WWII Era Dairy Farmer

-WWII’s (x10 IC), Alarm Clock, Dairy Farmer (Squat & move arms like milking a cow)

(All of the PAX mooing were hilarious!)

-Repeat 3 times

(My Grandpa tried to go off to WWII at least 3 different times, but was not allowed because he was a dairy farmer and owned a farm. They wanted him to serve at home by farming.)

We laid the tracks, we now ride the train (Mosey) across the field to 10 Stations in a Ring of Fire

2 PAX at Each Station, EMOM move to next station. Every station is AMRAP for 1 min.

Station 1: Foxholes w/ bricks

Station 2: Jump Squats, Bunyan Style…On the jump, swing that axe like you’re splitting wood

Station 3: Log Murder Bunny…My grandpa used to shoot rabbits from his tractor

Station 4: Tractor Tire Flip: PAX 1 flips tire 5 times, while PAX 2 does AMRAP Burpees. Switch after every 5 tire flips

Station 5: Plow the Field…Bear Crawl, w/ Cinder Block between your feet…drag block w/ your feet

(For many years my grandpa plowed fields with Mules & Horses, before he bought his first tractor)

Station 6: Log Curls (Bicep curls with log)

Station 7: Log Thrusters

Station 8: Wood Chopper w/ brick …do x10 swings to the left, then x10 swings to the right…continue for 1 min.

Station 9: Brickbarrow…PAX 1: grab feet of PAX 2. PAX 2 walks on hands w/ brick in each hand. Go out for ~30 seconds, switch and come back to cone.

Station 10: Sledge Hammer Hold…Hold bottom of Sledge Hammer or Maul Handle with one hand for as long as possible. Modify with shorter, smaller sledge hammer.

(Since you guys volunteered me to do this at the Convergence, I thought I’d share the experience. Also, little story about this…At the Convergence, while I was holding that Freedom Hammer, I was thinking about my grandpa the whole time. My uncle’s have told me a tale of a time they came to respect and fear their dad. One time they saw him grab the bottom of a sledge hammer handle, held it out at arms length, then touched the hammer to his nose. After that, they knew their dad’s strength and would never mess with him! That’s some 1930’s era dairy farmer strength!)

-Head to Flag

(Anna) Mary (My grandmother’s name was Anna-Mary)

-Low Plank (I shared how my grandpa lived a tough, farmers life, but had a huge faith in God, and lived a life of no excuses. Just like men of F3, we put excuses aside, and get out in the gloom)

-Left Side Plank (Shared a story of how every fall we’d have a wood cutting day, my grandpa, my uncles, cousin’s, and friends. After my grandpa couldn’t do as much physically, he’d sit on a log, and make us lunch, and boss us around. He was dubbed the “Log Boss”. The hat was his hat.”)

-Right Side Plank (Shared a story of one wood cutting day, my grandpa struggled getting a fire started. I told him I’d build a fire, then I lit it w/ one match. He called me some choice names, then told me he was proud of me and said that he was glad the Boy Scouts actually taught me something.)

-Flutter Kicks (x15 IC)

-Pickle Pointers (x10 IC) …my grandparents had 5 kids.

-Great Blue Heron (Crane Stretch) …After my grandpa died, a great blue heron showed up in the pond behind his house, and it stayed there for a week until after his funeral. In 2016, the evening before my grandmother died, I was outside w/ my daughter, and saw 2 great blue herons flying into the sunset side-by-side. Later that night, my grandma passed away. Every time I see a great blue heron, I think of my grandparents.
