The Thang (Time for School)

From F3 Nation Exicon: Billy Madison

Inspired by Billy Madison's journey back through school, this routine involves a running loop and exercise per grade. Begin with a loop (ideally single-file line leader style) to simulate the grade, followed by an exercise with 12 reps as the exam. This concludes 1st grade. Run the loop again, followed by the 1st grade exercise x12 reps plus a new exercise x12 reps. This concludes 2nd grade. Continue with the loop and adding an exercise each time until you've completed one loop and exercise combo for each of the 12 grades.

Run 1 lap around pavilion after each grade level. Everyone had a turn at being line leader. The exercises chosen for each grade level:

-1st Grade: Flutter Kicks (x12 IC)

-2nd Grade: Dips (x12 SC)

-3rd Grade: Squat (x12 SC)

-4th Grade: Merkins (x12 SC)

-5th Grade: WWII (x12 SC)

-6th Grade: Calf Raises (x12 IC)

-7th Grade: SSH (x12 SC)

-8th Grade: LBC (x12 SC)

-9th Grade: Monkey Humpers (x12 SC)

-10th Grade: American Hammer (x12 IC)

-we ran out of time, so instead of repeating all the previous exercises, we went straight from American Hammers, into 12 Burpees, then ran to the playground to complete 12 Pull Ups…

-11th Grade: Burpees (x12 SC OYO)

-12th Grade: Pull Ups (x12 SC OYO)

COT (Graduation)

Prayers/Praises:

-Prayers & Praise for Stall and his M and new baby. Prayers for PoPo’s brother with cancer. Prayers for Eagle’s M and my M.

Awesome work today gentlemen! You guys crushed it.

After each run around the pavilion, we repeated all the previous exercises. Great metaphor for life without something greater & bigger than ourselves. The bible is a record of human history repeating over and over again trying to get away from God, turning towards selfishness. The Bible tells us what always happens, not just what happened in the past. Proverbs 26:11 says “As a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly.” Without F3, without a shield lock, without accountability, we can so easily fall back into old patterns, and just keep repeating those bad habits & patterns. I greatly appreciate you guys! Keep up the good work, keep embracing the suck! You guys are awesome!

P.S. – Sunspot gave me a great reminder this morning about calling exercises and calling the cadence. I definitely needed the reminder, and thought I’d post the link to a video about the proper way to count. Great to stay refreshed on this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tT7afkk2toA

Thank you Sunspot!
